Rounding off another successful year, The Rainbow Venues look back at the top tracks of 2016
Amy Evans, Graphic Designer at The Rainbow Venues:
ISAAC TICHAUER – HIGHER LEVEL (BICEP REMIX)
This song just reminds me of The Blackbox and all the good times in that space. I first heard it when Bicep played it in The Blackbox last year!
Liam Roberts, Seedy Sonics & Seedy Records:
MIDLAND – FINAL CREDITS
An absolute weapon of a tune, the tune crossed over into so many DJs playlists who wouldn’t normally play these kind of records, the vocal is one of those vocals that has the ability to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and the lead synth melody captures the essence of festival season this year. Easily the top tune of 2016.
DENIS SULTA – NEIN FORTIATE
Denis has been pushing the boundaries with his productions since breaking on to the scene, his tunes are instantly recognisable as his as he’s found a unique sound already, this track builds on his excellent synth work from previous tracks but retains a real zip about it which makes it perfect for the dance floors.
BLAZE – LOVELEE DAE (BICEP REMIX)
Another one of those tunes that has a great summer feel to it, uplifting vocals and rolling drums make it one of the tunes that seems to work on all dance floors.
Reidy, 1/2 Paradox City & 1/2 Portal:
Both of these tracks been absolute anthems at Portal and embody exactly what we are about and both tracks have got amazing reactions all year round everywhere I have played them. Fun, Groovy, Crazy, Upbeat, Happy.
SOLARDO – TRIBESMAN
RAUMAKUSTIK – DEM A PREE (PATRICK TOPPING REMIX)
REDLIGHT – TOASTY (TEMPLATES 2016)
This track has been my bass weapon every set explosive dance floor material.
AC SLATER & CHRIS LORENZO – FLACID
A techno / bass hybrid which is such a good bit of music and has a punch and half when it drops.
Bradley Hughes, Seedy Sonics:
SKREAM – YOU KNOW, RIGHT?
I’ve picked this track because it is the best production he has come with since dubstep, the fusion of a lot of different influences from multiple different genres such as house and garage makes this track stand out for me in 2016.
DELE SOSIMI & AFROBEAT ORCHESTRA – TOO MUCH INFORMATION (LAOLU REMIX [EDIT INVERSIONS])
Even though it was first released in December 2015 I think this deserves a spot on the list. The first time I heard it I was transfixed anything from inner visions is worth a place on the list but the fusion of the deep musical sound and the African influences in the track make this one of the most soulful tracks of 2016.
Bunny, Blackdot & Social Underground:
JULIAN – SHADES
Rinsed this all 2016 to the point that I have worn out the first beat on the record! Might have to get another copy for 2017 Dope tune.
Lewis Oxley, Blackdot & Cloak ‘N’ Dagger:
SPACETRAVEL – RANDOM BASS
Just another Perlon in the bag. Probably my most collected record label. This track was the standout of the double EP.
PRISM – DECALOGUE
Not technically released in 2016. This one goes all the way back to 1997 but got a repress this year. Amazing deep house/techno/ambient record from Japan.
