Having been on The Rainbow Venues circuit for a number of years and recently warming up for Ricardo Villalobos and Hot Since 82, Lewis Oxley is a big name and has contributed towards some of The Rainbow Venues’ most historic shows.
We caught up with Lewis Oxley ahead of his performance this Bank Holiday weekend, before recording his exclusive mix for The Rainbow Venues below.
Who are you?
I’m Lewis Oxley, born and bred in South Yorkshire and now, conveniently living about 5 minute stumble from The Rainbow Venues.
What event at the Rainbow Venues are you a resident for?
How did you get into DJ’ing? Where did you learn your skill from? Self taught or education?
I started off buying records in 2002 and DJ’ing came a few years after. My first gig was at Cloak N Dagger in a disused building in the Jewellery quarter to about 40 people. I learnt through practice and watching my friends and other DJ’s play.
How would you describe the music you play?
House, Techno, Electro and other things in between.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Don’t follow trends.
What piece of equipment would you most like to own?
A new mixer probably, maybe an E&S DJR 400.
What are we going to see from you in 2016 and beyond?
Lot’s more parties. Gig’s coming up in Manchester, Leeds, London and of course Birmingham. Maybe I’ll finally put some music out too.
What does The Rainbow Venues mean to you?
Below (the event) means more than anything. It’s where I met some of my best friends and where I had the most memorable days and nights.
