A surreal journey of illusion, mystery and fun, The Portal launched at The Rainbow two years ago and produces some of the most unique events in the Midlands.
Ahead of its second birthday this Saturday, the creators of The Portal celebrate the anniversary with sharing their top 6 tracks that best describe the brand.
by Rothstein and Reidy
wAFF – Groover [Cocoon Recordings]
This track has been an anthem at The Portal since wAFF played it at our second event in early 2014. It’s high energy, fun and groovy, which is exactly what we go for at our events from start to finish.
Hot Lipps – Blouse & Skirts (Detlef Remix) [Hot Lipps Records]
We had to include a track from our friend Detlef in here and this is the one that has been getting great reactions at The Portal recently. Detlef never fails with his tracks and always plays an amazing set when he comes to our events. Looking forward to having him back again.
Simone Liberali – Huracan [Underground Audio]
Reidy: I love Simone Liberali as a producer. He’s got that Marco Carola / Music On sound but again the funky side too. I love what the Underground Audio record label is doing also. A huge thumbs up from me.
llict – Cheeky Armada
This track is one that always stands out for us – a timeless record! A bootleg of DJ Sneaks ‘U Can’t Hide From Your Bud.’ Memories of Derrick Carter playing this on the terrace @ DC10 Ibiza. This is a 5am ‘hands in the air moment’ inside The Portal!
Stefano Noferini Metodi Hristov – Soft Sentence (Original Mix) [Terminal M]
It wouldn’t be right for us to not include a track from Metodi Hristov, I’ve (Rothstein) been supporting his tracks for a long time now and I’ve used his tracks on the last 4 of my mixes now – for me his style of production is perfect for closing sets – well produced with high energy and DARK!
Azari & III – Reckless With Your Love (Steve Lawler Remix)
Guaranteed to go off each and every time! We first heard this track a while before it was released. It’s always a difficult task to make a remix better than the original version but in this case, Lawler has exceeded the original. Chopped up vocals, wicked bassline and rave samples make this a certified banger at any point in a set.
